The Legacy Lung Screening and Smoking Cessation Project
The Legacy Lung Screening and Smoking Cessation Project is for current smokers. It is a clinical and research program funded by a grant from The American Legacy Foundation that studies smoking cessation techniques in the context of CT screening for the detection of lung cancer and other tobacco-related diseases. These diseases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cardiac disease and lung cancer.
Who is eligible?
If you are a current smoker over the age of 50, you may be eligible for this study.
What happens when someone enrolls?
People who participate in this study will receive a FREE non-invasive low-dose CT scan of the chest. In addition, a brief interview will be conducted to ascertain past medical history. All participants will receive materials to help them quit smoking, and some will also receive a 15-minute free counseling session. If an abnormality is found and further procedures are required, your health insurance should cover it.
